Things to Do in Barnegat NJ- Depending on your interests there is something for everyone to do. Barnegat is very close to the Bay so if your a Boater or Fisheman you can launch you boat or just fish and crab. Summers at the Barnegat Dock are great! They have a Band, a awsome 4th of July party and fireworks. They have numerous flea markets and other great events. If you like antiques then this is your town. Barnegat has many antique shops including the Famous "Recycling the Past" which was on the Discovery Channel's popular TV show "Dirty Jobs" with Mike Rowe. If like to excercise or just walk you can take a stroll down Barnegat's Rails to Trails which is part of a 14 mile trail that leads from Barnegat to Toms River when completed. Presently it is approximately 4 miles. Barnegat NJ also has a Bay Beach if you like to swim which has a lifeguard during the Summer Season. The Township recreation center is always open and has many different activities for all ages all year long. You could visit our neighboring town Chatsworth which is in the heart of what is considered to be the New Jersey Pinelands.

Why Barnegat NJ? The Optimist Club of South Toms River named Barnegat one of "New Jersey's Friendliest Towns" after spending a day here during its Walkabout project this summer, in which 28 children ages 10 to 17 walked 215 miles and planted 1,219 trees. On their day in the township, they enjoyed three meals and ice cream.
"I think everybody really enjoyed it," said Eugene Corbin, 10.
The group presented the Township Committee with a sign to display on West Bay Avenue proclaiming the new title during their meeting Monday night.
"The kids voted and Barnegat was the overwhelming choice," club director Frank Domenico Cipriani said.
